My name is Joel Colón. I was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and grew up in the quaint little town of Miami, Florida. I have taught fifth grade, middle school ELA, Social Studies, ESOL, and Digital Literacy. I once spent the summer in China collaborating with teachers and consulting on Project Based Learning. I have twin daughters and enjoy lifting heavy things and finding new ways to teach and connect.
Below are my stats. If you have any questions, you can always email me. There is no guarantee that I will answer. (Unless you're hiring me.)

An English/Language arts teacher teaches students about the finder points of the King's English. I came to McCracken because the 2013 school year was the first year that the district had gone 1 to 1. I had an immense amount of fun with my kids and loved every second of being in the classroom. Because we were having a good time, I ended up being the school's technology specialist the year after.

I loved GMA! I'm pretty sure that GMA also loved me. I was their 2011-2012 Teacher of the Year (Known in some circles as the TOTY [pronounced: 'TOADY"]). I left here because Greenville County was nowhere near becoming 1:1. Ironically, they started their 1 to 1 transition a year after I left.
May 2007 - June 2008
Every now and then, I take a little reprieve from teaching to see how the other half lives. At Super Duper, I was responsible for editing Spanish language products as well as some of the more basic classroom stuff. I made some products and I wrote some articles. I traveled the world and got to see some pretty cool sights. In the end, I came back to the jilted lover I call "teaching".
July 2005 - 2007
I did my Master's Degree in Education. I wrote a thesis and everything. I graduated with a 4.0 and loved every minute of it.

This is where I learned to love reading and technology. My bachelors degree taught me that I could learn anything as long as I dedicated myself to it.
Here is a little bit of what I do. Just a taste! I wouldn't want to give too much away!
So at this point, you are curious about what I can do for you. Well here is a list
I have been writing curriculum for over 14 years. Some of it has been published professionally. Differentiation and engagement are key! Need something fun and interesting? Let me know.
I also dabble in web development. Need a website design? Need something that will organize a herd of students? The power of the web is the most useful tool in organizational management.
I've presented at EdTech, SCAMLE, Tech and Learning Atlanta, and Upstate Technology Conference. I'm also quite handy when it comes to getting a medium to large scale 1 to 1 initiative off the ground.
I've also written professionally. If you're interested, you could always just click here...or here..., even here.... Go ahead, you know you want to.
Oh yea! I speak Spanish. I actually speak it quite well. I have over 12 years of educational intepreting services.
Finding me is pretty easy. All you have to do is email, call, or use the form below. I can't promise that I will answer right away, but I can promise that I will answer. Teachers - first and foremost - are collaborators.
